Wall Insulation Services
Wall Insulation
Interior and exterior walls, particularly in older homes, can often be lacking in insulation. A lack of wall insulation can result in noise transfer between rooms and decreased energy efficiency throughout the house. Hiremykonos will work with homeowners to evaluate their current levels of insulation and make recommendations for installing additional wall insulation where it is needed. To get started on a wall insulation project, contact Hiremykonos .
What Is Internal Wall Insulation?
Reducing heat loss within your home by installing insulation within its internal property walls – also known as dry lining - is an effective way to reduce heat loss.
We firstly fit insulating material to your walls followed by a vapour barrier, protecting against air penetration. Nearly all property types are suitable for this type of insulation and installation (due to the speed of installation) is fairly straightforward and hassle-free.
Why Do We Need Internal Wall Insulation?
Introducing high quality interior wall insulation is one of the best ways to prevent heat loss, protect against fire risks and improve acoustic capabilities.
It improves energy performance and creates a comfortable home or working environment suitable for all types of internal walls:
Partition walls – Non-load bearing walls used to divide a room. Commonly a wooden or metal stud wall with plasterboard finish or similar.
Dry lining walls – Similar in build to a partition wall, but placed on the inside of the outer wall. This type of internal wall is designed around improving comfort.
Separation walls – Also known as a party wall, these separate adjoining flats, houses and rooms between residential properties.
Applications can be easier and more accessible for certain properties, such as flats. They also have no impact on the external appearance, such as with dry lining walls where the insulation can be installed before the cladding, which is then painted over.
For separation and partition walls, they improve the soundproof qualities between rooms and properties.
Benefits of ROCKWOOL internal wall insulation include:
-Reduced heat loss
-Protection against fire risks
-Cost-effective installation
-Blocking and absorbing sound
-Matching environment aesthetics
What Is External Wall Insulation?
External Wall Insulation (EWI) offers a solution to homes constructed with solid walls to become more thermally efficient.
A layer of insulation is fixed to an existing wall and then finished with either a layer of render or an alternative cladding to protect the insulation.
An EWI solution can be engineered to suit practically any type of building design and construction, with established methods adopted for non-traditional housing, standard specifications of solid walls and more bespoke solutions for new build and many non-domestic situations.
We provide a range of EWI solutions (single or multi-storey, solid wall, non-traditional or cavity construction), which feature a variety of insulation materials which include: expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene, polyisocyanurate (PIR), phenolic and mineral fibre.
There are also a wide variety of external finishes available which include: synthetic, mineral, dash, rough cast, brick effect renders, brick slip (synthetic and traditional), timber, board, tile and PVC-U.
What is external wall insulation made up of?
EWI creates a barrier that stops heat escaping through your walls. This barrier is attached to the outside of your walls in several layers. The main insulating component is normally made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), phenolic boards or mineral wool. EPS is most commonly used.
The components of EWI:
Insulation Layer
This is the main insulation - it is normally made of either expanding polystyrene or mineral wool. Technologies such as phenolic resin insulation are also available. All of these materials are used to prevent heat escaping through walls. The insulation is typically fastened to the building using direct fixings such as self-tapping screws.
Primer
The primer helps waterproof the EWI system and act as a barrier to moisture passing from the outside in. Some primers also have inherent insulation properties adding to the overall efficiency of the system.
Glass Fibre Mesh&Fixing Anchor
This part is used to hold the primer in place whilst it dries. Another layer of primer is then applied over the top of it.
Render Finish
This is the final layer of EWI and has a decorative function, enhancing the look of your home. There are various different renders available.
How does EWI insulation work?
eat is lost from a building in three ways:
-Conduction
-Convection
-Radiation
It travels through the walls, roof, floor, windows and doors. EWI reduces heat loss through your walls
How Does EWI Stop
Conducion- By using an insulating material that is bad at conducting heat and choosing the right thickness for this material. This helps lock the heat inside your home.
Convection-The insulating material has small voids or air pockets to contain air movement. EWI normally uses an expanding polystyrene slab which contains thousands of trapped air pockets.
Radiation-EWI systems use surfaces that emits little radiant energy and absorb a very small percentage of the radiant energy falling on to it.
